Insight on: Recruitment and Employment Branding

According to Peter Weddle – well-known recruiter, HR consultant, CEO and author – recruiting with the Internet is not like using other technology. It requires considerable understanding and skill, and the ability to recruit the best talent is achieved only with a fundamental change in the way recruiting is done – one that is carefully designed to capture the full potential of the technology.

As a minimum, it must incorporate the following:

  • A change in recruitment advertising. Job postings must be informative, inspiring and inviting. To access the best talent with the Internet, organizations must give recruitment ads the same priority as that of their product and service advertising and develop. They are e-advertising brochures.
  • A change in individual communications. Organizations must pro-actively communicate with prospective talent –tap into the resources of your resume database and cut the time and cost of reaching this talent pool in the future. Build active relationships with your prospects. Assess the impact on your branding strategy.

An organization’s employment brand is the sum of all the experiences that are provided to candidates throughout its recruitment process. Eliminate the “black hole” perception of online resume submission and audit your recruitment process to ensure it provides a good customer experience for candidates.

Only organizations that adapt their operations to capture the full potential of the Internet will reach the best talent.

This week’s issue…What have you done to audit your employment brand and recruitment strategy?

Here are a few areas to begin your audit -

  • Review and evaluate your career web site
  • Survey employees about their perception of the organization, as an employer
  • Review and monitor other sites, where your employees and patients share their experiences
  • Review your job descriptions and job advertising
  • Review your candidate communication and application process
  • Review your advertising and job posting strategies ______________________________________________
