American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging Joins the National Healthcare Career Network as Founding Partner

Aging Services Organization Joins Other Healthcare Associations to Address National Crisis in Healthcare Staffing

Sept. 29, 2008 15:28 UTC

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- In light of the critical shortage of healthcare workers, the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging has joined the National Healthcare Career Network, which links the job boards of more than 85 other healthcare associations.

The goal of the Network is to give healthcare recruiters easy access to high quality job candidates from healthcare associations. AAHSA’s 5,800 member organizations specialize in aging services from adult day services and home health to assisted living residences and nursing homes.

“AAHSA's commitment is to create the future of aging services through quality that people can trust,” said Dr. Larry Minnix, AAHSA president and CEO. “Joining the National Healthcare Career Network contributes to making sure our field has the talent to maintain that future. This is one of the most critical issues facing long-term care today.”

AAHSA joins two other founding partners: the American Hospital Association and ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership as well as well-known network members such as the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Public Health Administration. Healthcare recruiters can access qualified job seekers from all associations in the Network, giving them faster access to the best candidates through one job board.

“We welcome the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging to the Network,” said John H. Graham IV, CAE, president and CEO of ASAE & The Center for Association Leadership. “The Network will promote associations as the primary resource for finding the talent to care for aging Baby Boomers in the coming decades.”

“Professional workers in the aging services field are active members of their professional associations,” Minnix said. “As a member of the Network, we have linked forces with other like-minded associations that seek to make it easier to fill healthcare positions with qualified candidates.”

The National Healthcare Career Network is powered by the NHCN’s Managing Partner, Boxwood. The system links healthcare trade and professional association job boards into a single recruitment resource for recruiters, seeking qualified healthcare professionals and those workers looking for career opportunities in the field. A single job posting can now reach over 85 association career centers, which expands the search into multiple talent pool communities.

Boxwood Chairman and CEO, John Bell said the critical staffing shortage in the healthcare industry prompted the idea to bring healthcare association job boards together. Boxwood is the Managing Partner for other career networks, including: Engineering and Science Career Network, Diversity Talent Network and Marketing Career Network.

“As the US population ages, the need for aging services employees will grow,” Bell said. “Membership in the National Healthcare Career Network gives AAHSA recruiters the opportunity to find top candidates through the network’s growing list of network partners.”
