Banner Health (BH) is a multi-state, non-profit health system based in Phoenix, Arizona, with 23 hospitals and 35,000 employees. For over 70 years, BH has been dedicated to its patients by using innovative technology and an advanced medical approach.

Language services play a key role in BH’s proactive risk management strategy. Marisa Hernandez, Interpreter Educator for Corporate Risk Management, explains: “Ineffective communication can result in a number of issues including incorrect diagnoses, misunderstanding of benefits and risks that lead to poor patient decisions, or unnecessary ER visits from misunderstood patient discharge instructions. As a result, we provide services only through trained and qualified interpreters.”
