AHA Solutions Appoints Three New Members to its Board of Directors

AHA Solutions, Inc. today announced it has appointed three new members to its 2012 Board of Directors. Members of the board oversee long-range strategic and financial planning, while also ensuring that AHA Solutions’ priorities are aligned with those of our nation’s hospitals. A subsidiary of the American Hospital Association (AHA), AHA Solutions is committed to supporting the interests and operational excellence of hospitals by identifying solutions that address some of the most pressing challenges facing health care today.

In his current role, Mr. Berg is responsible for day-to-day operations of the 898-bed flagship hospital in Dallas for Texas Health Resources (THR). He also has responsibility for service excellence, employee engagement and the hospital’s four Joint Ventures. During his tenure, Texas Health Dallas achieved several milestones, including the Women’s Specialty Surgery Center Joint Venture in partnership with 42 physicians, $207 million construction of the new Hamon patient bed tower, $30 million Operating Room/Hybrids addition and Magnet redesignation. Mr. Berg has also been instrumental in implementing numerous workflow improvements using Lean Six Sigma methodologies. Productivity has improved 20 percent, with employee engagement scores rising to the 93rd percentile.

Mr. Berg has more than 30 years of experience as a senior health care leader. Prior to joining Texas Health Resources, he was system President/CEO of the Methodist Hospitals in the Metro Chicago area. He served as Executive Vice President/COO of Genesis Health System and President/CEO of Mercy Hospital in Iowa. He also held senior leadership positions in Kansas, Utah, and St. Louis. Mr. Berg holds a Master of Hospital and Healthcare Administration (MHA) and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Management Sciences, Magna Cum Laude, from Saint Louis University. He has more than 20 years of outstanding service in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, Medical Service Corps, and is retired with the military rank of Lt. Colonel.

In his current role, Mr. Fahey is responsible for Information Technology, including telecommunications. Under his guidance, Maimonides has won many prestigious awards, including the ComputerWorld Smithsonian Award in 1998, The Nicholas E. Davies Award in 2002, and the American Hospital Association’s “Most Wired” and/or “Most Wireless” 1999 to 2011. Mr. Fahey was also instrumental in the development of the Heal 1, 5, 10 and 17 Grant applications to develop the Brooklyn Health Information Exchange (BHIX).

With more than 25 years of experience in the health care field, Mr. Fahey has held IT leadership positions at The Hospital for Joint Diseases, Baxter Health Care, St. Vincent’s Medical Center and The New York Methodist Hospital. He holds a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Computer Science and earned his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Fairleigh Dickinson University.

>In his current role, Mr. Heller is responsible for overseeing all human resource (HR) functions, including talent management, recruitment, retention, benefits, compensation, HR operations and organizational effectiveness. Under his leadership, Baptist Health has received several workplace accolades, including Fortune magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” for 12 consecutive years, Working Mother magazine’s “100 Best Companies for Working Mothers” for 17 years as the only health care system awarded, and Ethisphere Institute’s “World’s Most Ethical Companies” in 2011 and 2012.

Prior to joining Baptist Health, Mr. Heller held executive HR positions at LexisNexis, Cisco Systems and various divisions of PepsiCo. At the Australian-based Brambles Industries Limited, he was responsible for strategic HR initiatives in Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.Mr. Heller is a graduate of Hamilton College and holds a Master degree in Industrial and Labor Relations from Cornell University. He is certified as a Senior Professional Human Resources executive and is a Certified Compensation Professional.

The addition of these three new members completes the full 2012 Board of Directors.
