Overview
The Need
In 2010, Children’s Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota underwent a renovation at its Minneapolis facility. The goal was to transform the entire location into a place where patients and families – who previously received care in a shared-space environment – would enjoy private, family-centric rooms. Such a renovation would also transform the way staff worked together. Minnesota Children’s used the project as an opportunity to reevaluate its entire workflow and communications infrastructure.
The Solution
Minnesota Children’s uncovered areas for improvement and better efficiency, finding new and better ways to use real-time location systems (RTLS) to save time, streamline processes and build on the organization’s mission to provide a superior patient and family experience. Turning to a comprehensive, Wi-Fibased solution, Minnesota Children’s implemented AeroScout’s Staff Visibility solution and Nurse Call integration as well as its Condition Monitoring solution in areas throughout the facility.
The Results
With careful planning, training and ready staff acceptance, the solution quickly fulfilled the hospital’s vision to fill gaps in its operations, support care providers at the bedside, improve the patient call process, save time finding staff in acute situations and even ensure temperature-sensitive items remain at safe levels in refrigeration units.
