Small Hospitals Gets Big Results

Two facilities with less than 100 beds struggled with finding patient safety software that would be highly functional yet priced for their facilities. Learn what they found with RL6.

Resource thumbnailWhen it comes to managing patient safety, it doesn't matter how big an organization is: it's always a priority. Unfortunately, making the case to purchase risk management software is much harder at a smaller hospital-something the busy quality departments at Grand Itasca Clinic & Hospital and Deborah Heart and Lung Center know too well. They were both in the market for patient safety software but struggled to find something to fit their budget.

Deborah Heart and Lung Center is a New Jersey based, 89-bed specialty hospital that offers leading edge techniques for diagnosing and treating cardiac, vascular and pulmonary diseases in adults, and heart defects in adults and children. As its Clinical Manager of the Process Improvement Department, Debbie Brennan wears many hats. She oversees process variance reporting and her department also manages patient feedback, infection control, quality reporting and more.

Lynn Schweiberger, the Quality Director at Grand Itasca, is responsible for many things as well: patient experience, feedback, physician quality, infection prevention, social workers and incident reporting. One of the last independent hospitals in Minnesota, Grand Itasca is a 60-bed, non-profit clinic and hospital that employs over 600 people and is home to over 60 physicians and other providers.
