In October 2012, the Value-based Purchasing Program will affect Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement rates, putting some organizations’ revenue at significant risk. The Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) survey will be a major component of this program, and public reporting of its results allows patients to compare hospital performance. Given this reality, hospitals need employees who understand the importance of patient centric care.
