The Accountable Care Organization (ACO) discussion has been a useful catalyst for change—encouraging hospitals and health systems to rethink how they organize and deliver care to succeed in a value-based environment. However, relatively few health care providers may be in a position to effectively evolve into ACOs in the next few years.
