Declining Medicare reimbursements are impacting hospitals’ viability. As health systems struggle to manage the conflicting pressures of cost and revenue, case management departments are increasingly shifting their focus to commercial plans to offset the reimbursement decline. Management of this conflict means eliminating unnecessary observations and consistently addressing the commercial admission review process by expanding utilization review best practices. This session will focus on how the case management team at Seton Family of Hospitals was able to create change and secure critical reimbursement dollars by focusing on health plan patient populations.

The Spotlight on Case Management Excellence series from Executive Health Resources brings together case management professionals to share best practices and elevate health care.

By attending this event, participants will:

  1. Understand why hospitals may have unnecessarily high commercial observation rates and identify the factors that lead to missed opportunities to appropriately status a case as inpatient with health plans
  2. Evaluate the time/resource impact you could expect on your teams by expanding UR to health plans and learn how to best allocate existing utilization management resources
  3. Recognize future trends in: Commercial payer contracting Utilization management Denial management
