At its simplest, a hospital’s network enables communication across functions, processes, and transactions. When it functions properly, the network enables productivity in achieving the robust systems needed for:

• compliance with state and federal regulations;
• reimbursement; and,
• high-quality patient care.

Networks are under strain, thanks to the sheer amount of data that must be transmitted. For instance, the amount of data produced by modern medical imaging systems can also threaten hospital networks.  Hospitals require high-bandwidth data networks to limit time needed to download images.  They must also comply with HIPAA regulations requiring the availability and confidentiality of sensitive patient information wherever and whenever it’s needed.  All of these trends underscore the need for more reliable, high-performance and secure voice and data communications.
