Military to Medicine

Healthcare Workforce at the Ready.  Healthcare is facing a shortage of not only workers, but also the educators to train them. Inova Health System, based in Northern Virgina, is offering a solution:  Military to Medicine. The program provides healthcare training and career placement opportunities to talent found within the nation’s military family.

Military to Medicine started as a recruitment initiative for Inova in 2008 in partnership with the Army Reserve Employer Partnership Office and the Department of Defense. They are launching the program nationwide to other healthcare organizations in April 2010 due to the success they’ve seen connecting Military spouses, wounded warriors and their caregivers, Veterans, National Guard, Reserve and their spouses, and service members transitioning to civilian employment with training and career placement within their own health system of five hospitals. They are looking for healthcare employer partners who want to also support the military community in their area by providing employment opportunities and helping the military community become workforce-ready healthcare employees. It’s a natural partnership - healthcare employers in every state look for both direct patient care providers and those from administrative and technology fields AND a program that delivers quality candidates, establishing a bridge for the military community to healthcare careers.

Unique to Military to Medicine is their commitment to developing employment goals based on an individual’s interests and abilities. Their approach to custom training ensures that adult students progress according to their specific needs. In addition, Military to Medicine offers the combination of online learning with required lab-based clinical courses and simulations.
